All I can add is that I helped a "well known" musician research his Homespun Songs of the Union" tapes and while he recorded three volumes he could not get himself to add " Marching Through Georgia" because of his wife's family's Georgia heritage. From an outside viewpoint it could be construed as collateral damage and a necessary element to bring the War to an quick and decisive end, from a Georgia Family that lost EVERYTHING they would be right to consider it vindictive. While I am an admirer of Sherman, I believe he lost control of his officers and men during that March.
